Delicious Meals for a Healthier Lifestyle-Delivered!

6/1/2010

Hi all. Time has gotten by me and after this weekend, I wanted to write this newsletter.

First, Beach Boot Camp is starting this coming Saturday, June 5 at 7:30am. If it takes off...I may do Sundays as well. So be there. It's $15 for pay as you go, and pay for the month and get $10 off for the month ($50). They will be about 40 - 45 mins long. If you have bad knees, you may consider not doing this. It's hard doing squats and running on the beach...let alone doing lunges, skipping, pushups, tricep dips, medicine ball tosses etc.! It's gonna be a blast...be there and bring someone. Also bring a mat or towel and water. Water will be available for $1.

So, it's officially the kick off of the summer beach season. Does that mean its time to not start exercising, stopping working out, or going nuts at barbeques? HELL NO!

This is one of the worst times of the year. Here are some of the things I hear about this time of year that just doesn't cut it, and will make your hard work, or startup kill you.

"I have to live! It's summer time"  (Really? Being self destructive is living? Interesting)
"I run around all summer so I'm really losing weight from all the activity" (yeah, thats an illusion)
"I'd just be working out to counter the bbq's and drinking, whats the point" (yep, someone said it)
"I'm too busy during the summer" (we're busy all year round).

This is the BEST time of year to do it. You're not under pressure to GET READY FOR SUMMER as some try to do 2 months before Memorial Day. Yes, there are bbq's, outings etc, but that doesn't mean you stop or don't think about what you eat, or you don't make better than choices. How about grilled chicken and salad, fruit salads etc. "Step away from the buns, macaroni salad, potato salad, and excessive alcohol ma'am!"

Eat before you go out. Today alone I heard how people, "Ate like a pig", "Drank like a fish", and in the next sentence I heard, "I have to lose weight, but it's summer, I'll start in September." SAY WHAT?

Look, I'm all for having a good time, going to bbq's, having a few coronas, but I limit what I do. That's all. Its just about being conscious of your food and exercise choices. Sure, go nuts once and a while, but don't make summer a blanket statement about how you can't lose weight or its too busy. That's just an excuse.

The truth is, it's no different than any other time of year, and it's a great time to set your fitness and weight loss success in motion. I have one client, Barbara who gets it! She started three months ago, and comes 3 times a week. I train her once a week, and she does two to three other days on her own here during the week and weekends. She loses 1 - 2lbs per week. She's not in a race, but she understands healthy weight loss, and how resistance training changes your body composition and makes you slimmer than someone the same weight as you who just runs or doesn't workout. She understands that 1-2lbs = 52 lbs in 6 - 12 months if she's consistent.

52lbs!! Maybe less due to the lean tissue she'll add, but she's be so much smaller. I've had continued success' with those who take a realistic approach to weight loss, muscle growth, eating habits and goals. They are the same people who workout all year round, not just during specific seasons or months. They make it PART of their lifestyle, without it being a TOTAL lifestyle.

Summer has so many mental and physical traps, justifications, excuses and pitfalls. But it doesn't have to. Exercise regularly, be conscious of what and how much you eat, and be consistent...that's all it takes. I've even been told, "Everyone pushes me and says Oh, what are you on a diet?" Uh, yeah! Misery loves company. People who PUSH you to eat or not workout and go out instead or do nothing is jealous they've never accomplished what you are working toward...but you're doing it. It's not high school anymore!

Come on down and lets figure out the best way for you to start. You might want to do like others who get 3, one hour sessions a month and a membership, or you may want 30 or 60 minute sessions 2 or 3 times a week and come in and do cardio on your own...but do it. Training is a great way to keep you focused, scheduled, and doing it. And I've been known to send out the occassional reminder about what your eating to your cell phone! LOL...i'm here to help. I'm a part of it...and so are my other clients.

I hope to see you VERY soon. Oh, and bring some of those other people with you and you'll get great rates for 2, 3 and 4 person sessions!

Have a great week everyone and hope to see you at this weeks Beach Boot Camp kick off at Corey Beach. :)
