I hope everyone's Thanksgiving went well. Forget what you ate for now. What I want to talk about today is how to succeed before, during and after the holidays, and quite frankly, all year round!

Ok, so you get home from work, you're tired, you just want to eat and crash on the couch and watch NCIS (I love that show!) :-).  So, when is your fitness and healthy eating going to start or when can you find the time or energy to do it?

I always found either before, or immediately after work was the best time for me to train. I didn't even go home if I didn't have to. Sometimes, I found that I had to work out later at night, around 8 or so. But what's the key to actually going?

There are three things you need to be successful, and if you get personal training, there's a 4th thing that will keep you on track and give you the best results. I'll explain the 4th quickly here and then move on to the other 3. Personal Training offers you several things. Knowledge, Consistency, and most of all, a schedule. You're scheduled, you'll go. It's that simple. Most of my clients would agree that if they didn't have the schedule, they wouldn't go. So keep that in mind if you have a hard time getting to the gym, working out at home or however you exercise.

The Three main things are,
  • Motivation
  • Consistency
  • Support

Motivation: It's hard to get motivated, particularly in the beginning, just getting started. It's amazing what you can do, and how motivated you get when you start. You feel it, you see it, you start thinking, "hmmm, this works, I can't wait to get to the gym today". It really happens, and it's a great feeling.  We don't have lives anymore that give us the intensity our bodies need to stay fit. So we need to seek outside things to do it. If you're BMI is over 30, if your Body Fat is over 26 pr 27, if you need to lose 15, 20, 30 lbs or more, then hopefully, you're going to be motivated to prevent the diseases that are going to eventually get you.

How about the way you simply look, feel and feel about yourself? Isn't it worth the work to get into the clothes you've been dying to wear, or to look in mirror and watch the progress, and see yourself shrinking? This happens for everyone who does it right. That's what I'm here for. I'll help motivate you and show you the progress you make. I'll push you to new levels you thought you'd never reach. I won't kill you doing it either. I show you how the process works, and how to get the most out of your time. But true motivation will come from yourself, and from seeing the results. Just start, you'll see what I mean.

Consistency: Frequency, Intensity, Tension and Time (F.I.T.T.). These determine your progress, how fast, how slow, how much, how strong, etc. If you're consistent, and you do resistance training, cardio, and watch what you eat consistently, you'll be out front gaining results weekly. If your kid or someone you know goes to school and has math once a week, or once a month, that will determine how well they do. They won't learn. They won't remember. But send them daily, and it sticks, it works, its consistent. Our bodies work the same way. They learn with each workout and they keep learning. Being consistent is key to most anything. Success is based on it. So get in here and get to work. If you're a client, come in on your off days and get some cardio or workouts in. If you're not a client, come in and get training and a membership to use on your off days. Consistently saying you need to get in shape won't get you there. Consistently working towards it and teaching your body will give you the best and longest lasting results. Especially during the holidays.

Support: Ok this is a tough on sometimes. We would love it if our support systems were a bit better. Some have them, some don't. But lets say you can get in 30 mins of training 3 times a week, and do cardio for 20 mins on your off days. The support might come a bit easier. It's not a lot of time away, and I guarantee your significant other will appreciate the results and will support your efforts once they see what you're working towards.
