In the movie, a town nearly dooms itself via gluttony. As hamburgers, steaks and ice cream rain down, residents feast euphorically, oblivious to their expanding waistlines -- until a child succumbs to a food coma.
The problem is, that's exactly what's happening in America today. We don't realize it all that often about ourselves. We compare ourselves to someone else...but the "someone else" is getting bigger, so just how big are we?
When is the last time you had your body fat checked, or been weighed, taken a three minute step test, exercised regularly?
Now, when's the last time you ate poorly, or passed up the gym for a dinner out, or for that matter, how often do you eat out? Everyone says, Oh, Not that often...the fact is, we eat out all the time. We stopped taking care of ourselves. Unfortunately, that lack of caring is putting a hurting on our health care system with billions being spent every year on diseases, health issues, and injuries do to being overweight. They've made eating junk cheap, and quick. You buy a McDonalds meal for $5. It's cheaper to be overweight than to be thin.
Unfortunately, you'll pay later. Without proper exercise and nutrition, you will have illnesses that could have been prevented. What's the cost to you and your family?
I find some of the biggest problems are, Oversized portions when we eat in or out! Lack of understanding of how to exercise and when to exercise.
I'm not here to lecture, but to make you aware of the increase in numbers that aren't just someone else's problem. It's our problem. 75% of the people reading this, by 2015 (less than 5.5 years from now) will be obese! That's a fact. That means that many of our children will be overweight or obese as well. Do we help them now? Or hurt them later? We teach by example, and I think we should show a good one.
Don't put it off any longer. Start exercising tonight! Start eating better, or how about less as a start. Increase your fitness, decrease your calories. You'll find you trade places with the old you. You'll be lighter, and you'll be addicted to exercise. It's not a chore, it can be something fun. It can be as simple as 30 minutes a day that you do something good for yourself and your family. A half an hour! Imagine that. And it can be fun! I don't mean go for a leisurely stroll down the block either! :-)
If you don't know where to start. Come in to Fitness By the Bay. If you have started, but need a boost, come in as well. Take one of my classes, or start personal training. Getting individual attention is the quickest and most effective way of getting in shape. It keeps you going. You'll learn how and why you need to do things. And its a great way to get that motivation most of us need so badly. Including myself....we all need it. And you don't need to kill yourself to do it.
No matter what you do, please do it for yourself, and your families. Don't let the cartoon movie become your reality. Time goes by quickly, and suddenly we're saying, "I only wish I had......."
